Apurvi Chandela is an Indian professional shooter who hails from Jaipur. Her father, Kuldeep Singh Chandela, is a hotelier, while her mother, Bindu Rathore, is a housewife. Apurvi Chandela completed her education from Mayo College Girls School Ajmer and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ School. She did her graduation in Sociology honours from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University. Apurvi wanted to pursue Sports Journalism and had no plans to make a mark in shooting. However, one day she went to a local shooting range in Jaipur. Apurvi picked a rifle and scored a perfect ten.

With her father being mighty impressed, he supported her in venturing her career in shooting. Apurvi’s uncle had, in fact, built a shooting range in his backyard for Apurvi to practice.

Apurvi didn’t take too much time to make a mark in shooting as in her very first year she won the gold medal in 2012 National Shooting Championships in New Delhi.

In the year 2014, she bagged as many as four medals at the Intershoot Championships in New Delhi following by a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scoring 206.7 points in the final.

In 2016, Apurvi qualified for the Rio Olympics after claiming bronze in the Changwon World Cup. Unfortunately, she couldn’t get a medal there.

She joined hands with Ravi Kumar for the 10m air rifle mixed team event, and won a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

Apurvi also boasts of a gold medal in women’s 10m air rifle at the ISSF World Cup 2019.
