Kuldeep Singh is a track and field athlete who represents India in the 10,000m track running event. He made headlines after becoming the national champion in 10,000m in 2017.

Early Years

Hailing from a small district of Amroha, Kuldeep Singh was born on 15th September 2000. His father, Dharampal Singh is a farmer, while his mother, Shiksha Devi is a housewife. 

Being a son of a farmer, hard-work and honesty have been two valuable attributes in Kuldeep’s personality. The Indian athlete always had a keen inclination towards sports. Growing up he would spend most of his time playing cricket and other sports. 

Kuldeep never had an interest in studying and would spend most of his time outside playing with his friends.

Kuldeep Singh was born to Dharampal Singh and Shiksha Devi on 15th September 2000. Dharampal Singh works as a farmer, while his mother is a housewife. Kuldeep’s father never wanted him to participate in track and field games and urged him to focus on studies

However, the Indian athlete ignored everyone and did what his heart told him to. As fate would have it, Kuldeep Singh, became a national champion in 10,000m racing event in 2017. 

In his journey, his cousin, Sundar Singh Chauhan, has been one of his biggest support systems. He has always stood by him in the tough times. Kuldeep is currently living along with him in Ghaziabad. 

Track & Field Running - The Dream

Kuldeep Singh was in the third standard when he was introduced to track and field games. In the same year, he participated in the 1500m running event but couldn’t win any medal. However, the dream had begun. Very early in his life, he realized his purpose of life and the rest is history.  

Kuldeep participated in the same category next year for his school but failed again. As the years went by, he kept training hard under the guidance of his coach, Sanjay Singh Dhaka, and learnt a lot about the sport. His father, though, wasn’t very supportive until he became a national champion. His friends use to make fun of him and would often tell him to stop dreaming of becoming a national athlete. 

However, this didn’t deter the young blood and he kept rising through the ranks and made a name for himself. At 15 years of age, he clinched his major title, winning a gold medal at the district level in the 1500m running event.

CCS University- The Next Phase

Impressive performances at the district level led him to join the academy in Chaudhary Charan Singh University. He was trained under Brijhmohan Singh Gujjar.

Knowing his potential and the amount of competition in the 1500m category, Kuldeep’s coach made him switch his running category to 10,000m track event. He has been participating in the same event ever since.

Kuldeep Singh made headlines in the year 2017 when he became the national champion in the 10,000m running category, defeating some of the prominent athletes of the country. 

In the same year, at BSF Half Marathon 2017, Kuldeep participated in the 21km running category and ranked amongst the top 10. 

In the year 2018, he visited Nepal, Pokhra in the International Athletics Meet and clinched gold in 10,000m category. As many as six teams participated in that tournament. 

Kuldeep Singh has currently been giving trials to get selected for the Commonwealth Games, which is scheduled to be held between 22 July 2022 and 7th August 2022 and Olympics, which has postponed due to Covid-19. So far, he has cleared three trails and the rest has been postponed due to Covid-19 Pandemic. 

Having become the national champion, Kuldeep Singh’s next aim is to clinch medals at Commonwealth and Olympics.

The Man Behind Kuldeep's Success

Gopal sir has been like a father to me. He took care of all the monetary problems and took me to all the competitions. Without him, I wouldn’t have reached where I am standing today– Kuldeep Singh 

Knowing the fact that he wasn’t from an affluent family, he needed someone to help him climb the ladder to success. 

To play an important event, Kuldeep in his school days, went to Sunil Kumar International Academy, Hassanpur, Amroha. It turned out to be the turning point of his life as he met Jhamman Lal Degree College’s director Gopal Saxena and his life changed after that. 

Gopal Saxena was impressed with Kuldeep athletic abilities and decided to nurture the young talent and make him a force to reckon with. He admitted Kuldeep in Jhamman Lal Degree College and took care of his fees and other expenses. He would take him to all the competitions and would help with all the financial needs. Kuldeep has been grateful for the fact that he met the director and his life took a new turn afterwards.  

Kuldeep would often go to his mentor’s house and he gradually became friends with the latter’s son and soon the friendship blossomed

Awards And Achievements

1. At just 15 years of age, Kuldeep Singh clinched a gold medal at the district level in 1500m running category.
2. Kuldeep Singh became the national champion in 10,000 metre running category in 2017.
3. He won a silver medal in the state competition in the 10,000m category in 2016.
4. At the BSF Half Marathon 2017, Kuldeep participated in 21km running category and ranked amongst the top 10.
5. In 2018, he visited Nepal, Pokhra in the International Athletics Meet and clinched gold in 10,000m category.
6. He won a Gold medal in 10,000m at International Championship Indo 2020-21, held in New Zealand on 21st January 2020.
