Manchester City number 9 and Norwegian International Erling Haaland last night bagged 5 goals against German outfit RB Leipzig to help English Premier League defending champions through to the Quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League 2022/2023 season.
Both the teams met for the 2nd leg of their Round of 16 tie at the Etihad Stadium after the 1st leg ended in a 1-1 draw at Leipzig’s home. Haaland scores 30 goals in Europe’s top club tournament, becoming the quickest and youngest player to do so.
He joins Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano and Argentina great Lionel Messi as the only players to ever score five goals in a single Champions League encounter.

Ilkay Gundogan’s expert low strike into the bottom corner would have been commended on any other day. It was only a ceremonial victory on this historic night, which mirrored City’s 7-0 victory over Schalke in 2019.
The Norwegian in his very first season with Manchester City, Haaland has already surpassed the most goals in a season wearing the City shirt. He opened the scoring 21st minute after City were awarded with a penalty and Haaland netted a hard and accurate shot into right bottom corner.

2 minutes later, Haaland scored again this time with his head. He converted a rebound off Kevin De Bruyne’s sensational left-footed attempt which had hit the top corner. The 21-year-old bagged a first-half hat-trick this time through a corner to make it 3-0.
His 4th and 5th goal looked quite similar. Both of the goals were scored within the space of just 4 minutes. He is now on top of UEFA Champions League goal scorers chart with 10 goals to his name already. He will now have Cristiano Ronaldo’s most goal in a single season on sight.
