Best Batsmen of Jamaica Tallawahs in CPL

Jamaica Tallawahs has produced some destructive batsmen over the seven-season including Chris Gayle and Andre Russell. Jamaica Tallawahs had the sweet memory with the first edition as they are the titleholder of the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Premier League. Jamaica has qualified in the playoffs each season from 2013 to 2018. Their second CPL title came in 2016 where they beat Guyana Amazon Warriors.

#1 Chris Gayle (2013-2019)

The T20 Talisman has achieved milestones in the T20 format and he has most of the CPL records to his name. The Universal boss has made the debut for Jamaica in the first edition and played 5 seasons. Chris Gayle has scored 1695 runs for Jamaica from 53 matches including four centuries and 8 half-centuries. He also has the record of scoring most runs, most half-centuries, most centuries, most fours and most sixes for Jamaica.

He has hit 125 sixes for the franchise which is most by any batsman in CPL for a single franchise. Chris Gayle was in his best form in 2015, scoring 430 runs in 10 innings at an average of 61.42. In 2016, he scored 425 runs including a century to help Tallawahs to win the CPL title. In 2017, he smashed 37 sixes to break his own record of most sixes in a single season. For Jamaica, he has crossed 400 runs twice in CPL.

Gayle was top-scorer in both CPL finals, 2013 and 2016. In 2013, he scored 47 and in 2016 final, he contributed 54. The big man scored four centuries in CPL for Jamaica which is a record.

#2 Glenn Phillips (2017-2019)

Glenn Phillips made his debut for Jamaica Tallawahs in 2017 and in three editions, he becomes the top performer with the bat. The wicket-keeper batsman has accumulated 1007 runs in 28 innings at an average of 35.96 including a century and 7 half-centuries.

In 2018, Phillips scored 457 runs in 11 innings which is most by a Jamaica player in a single edition. In 2019, he amassed 374 runs in 10 innings at an average of 37.40. His best CPL knock for Tallawahs was recorded against Patriots in 2018, scoring the maiden CPL ton. Phillips is also the quickest to cross 1000 runs for a franchise in CPL.

#3 Andre Russell (2013-2019)

The destructive batsman Andre Russell has been a key figure for Jamaica Tallawahs. He has contributed with both bat and ball. Russell has played the most number of matches (57) for Tallawahs and he also has the record of the highest individual score for Jamaica. The score is 2nd highest individual score in CPL history.

During this blistering knock, he hit 13 monster sixes which is a CPL record of most sixes by a player in a single inning, breaking Gayle’s record of 11 sixes. Russell contributed 1109 runs at an average of 30.80 including two centuries. His maiden century came in 2016 against Trinidad off 43 balls.

#4 Kumar Sangakkara (2013-2017)

Kumar Sangakkara has appeared in 26 matches for Jamaica Tallawahs. He made his debut for Jamaica in 2013 and guide the side to the first CPL title. He was the CPL winner two times in his CPL career. Sangakkara accumulated 739 runs from 26 innings at an average of 33.59 including 7 half-centuries.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has performed on the top and his best form was in 2017, scoring 374 runs from 11 innings at an average of 42.11. In 2016, he contributed 297 runs and in the same year, Jamaica won its second CPL title. His best knock came against Stars in 2017, smashing unbeaten 74 from 45 balls.

5. Chadwick Walton (2013-2019)

Chadwick Walton was a vital player for Jamaica Tallawahs in the starting seasons of CPL. Walton is 2nd leading run-getter for Tallawahs in CPL, scoring 1154 runs from 49 appearances including 6 half-centuries. He has hit 51 sixes and 104 fours which is a record.

Walton’s best season was in 2016 and he accumulated 301 runs from 13 matches. His best knock was recorded in the same year when he scored 97 off 59 balls against Tridents. He is known for his signature sign against Williams.
