Ramkumar progresses to second round of French Open Qualifiers, Prajnesh  bows out

India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan advances into the second round of French Open Qualifiers but Prajnesh Gunneshwaran crashed out from the tournament following the first round defeat, here on Tuesday.

Ramkumar after losing the first set made a remarkable comeback against American Michael Mmoh 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 in the first match that lasted around 1 hour 54 minutes.

He will be next locking horns against Uzbekistan’s veteran Denis Istomin, who reached into the second round after defeating Bosnia’s Damir Dzumhur.

However other Indian singles compatriot Prajnesh Gunneshwaran who is currently seeded 32nd suffered defeat by 2-6, 2-6 against minion Germany’s Oscar Otte.

India’s top singles seeded 27th rank player Sumit Nagal will start his campaign against Roberto Marcora.

Rohan Bopanna seeded No.1 with Franko Skugor of Croatia, was beaten 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 by Federico Delbonis and Artem Sitak in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the €511,000 ATP tennis tournament in Belgrade, Serbia, on Tuesday.

The All India Tennis Association of India is the governing body responsible for conducting all Tennis Operations in India.  It was founded in 1920 and it is affiliated with International Tennis Federation and Asian Tennis Federation.

AITA is also responsible for organizing and hosting tennis tournaments within India and scheduling the home international fixtures of the national side.
