Rafael Nadal showed his brilliance in recently concluded Australian open after he outclassed Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling contest

Spanish Tennis giant Rafael Nadal outplayed Daniil Medvedev in recently concluded Australian Open final to win his 21st Grand Slam title months after  making stupendous comeback from injury and with this feat he has surpassed the record of 20 grand slam title secured by Djokovic and Federer.

 

Nadal roared from back as he was two sets down against Medvedev and ended up winning the final of AO. The match was full of drama as Nadal coming from a deficit of 2 sets and then taking the match till the fifth and the decider set of the match speaks a volume about his greatness.  During the last set Nadal broke Medvedev’s serve in the fifth game, but the Russian was not giving up and broke back in the tenth game to level the set. However, Nadal broke back immediately to won the match and to become the first men in the history of tennis to win 21 Grand Slam Titles. Nadal won the final in Melbourne 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.

To congratulate his long-time friend and rival Rafal Nadal, Roger Federer shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram story:

“What a match! To my friend and great rival @RafaelNadal, heartfelt congratulations on becoming the first man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. A few months ago we were joking about both being on crutches. Amazing, Never underestimate a great champion,” wrote Federer.

“Your incredible work ethic, dedication, and fighting spirit are an inspiration to me and countless others around the world. I am proud to share this era with you and honored to play a role in pushing you to achieve more, as you have done for me for the past 18 years. I am sure you have more achievements ahead but for now enjoy this one!” he added.

During Nadal’s career, he has won a total of 21 Grand Slams which include 13 French Open, 4 US Open, 2 Wimbledon, and 2 Australian Open titles.

It was a thrilling contest possibly one of the best Australian Open finals held till date and the credit should be given to Daniil Medvedev who gave Nadal run for his money by winning first two set and eventually losing in the final set by close margin. Medvedev who won last US Open final and was almost standing on the verge of winning Australian Open is a treat to watch and a rollicking superstar of Tennis in years to come.
