Early Life
Palak, a resident of Nimana village in Jhajjar district, Haryana, discovered her passion for shooting at the age of 13 while she was in school. Palak studied from Sehwag International School where she learned a lot about sports and found the field in which she wanted to make her career.
She improved her handgun abilities at the Faridabad shooting range, where she was coached by Rakesh Singh. Her father, Joginder Singh, a businessman, made the critical choice to relocate the family from Gurugram to Faridabad to accommodate Palak’s training.
She is the eldest of her twin siblings, who also include a brother and sister. Palak’s dedication and her family’s constant support have helped her reach the pinnacle of her sport by giving her a chance to represent her country at the highest level.
Shooting Career
Palak’s competitive shooting career is defined by amazing accomplishments and occasional disappointments, demonstrating her persistence and determination. In 2021, despite equipment difficulties that stopped her from reaching the finals, she displayed her promise by coming sixth in the 10m air pistol event and fourth in the junior class. These hurdles further drove her desire to advance in the sport.
The next year, in 2022, Palak’s skill shone brightly as she won gold at the ISSF Junior Cup in Suhl, Germany, demonstrating her ability on the international arena. She also contributed to India’s triumph by taking silver in the 10 meter air pistol team event in the Shotgun and Rifle/Pistol World Championships in Cairo, Egypt, demonstrating her versatility and teamwork.
Her gold medal win in the 10 meter air pistol event in the 21st Kumar Surendra Singh pistol championship in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in 2023 reaffirmed her status as a rising star in Indian shooting, indicating a bright future. Palak’s endurance and passion continue to inspire aspiring sportsmen and leave a legacy in the world of sports.
She overcame a shoulder injury the previous year and went on an arduous preparation trip for the Asian Games, which begin in mid-2022. Her training routine included going with her instructor to the two ranges in Ballabgarh and Faridabad, where her trainer, Rakesh Singh, had set up academies.
Palak has diligently refined her skills here, shooting 200 rounds per day. However, her preparation was not merely physical; she recognized the importance of mental fortitude in competition shooting and set aside time to improve her mental health and focus.
