Muhammed Ajmal Athlete Early Life
Muhammed Ajmal was born on the 1st of June 1998 in Palakkad, Kerala. While growing up in Palakkad he started his sports journey as a footballer. He played for the U-19 state level before his coach Nandakumar sir suggested that he should focus on running instead. Thus, began Ajmal’s long journey from 100m sprinter to now 400m sprinter.

Indian athlete Muhammed Ajmal started as a 100m athlete but soon switched to 400m at the insistence of his coaches. At his first ever 400m sprint he clocked an impressive 46.91s to take gold at the National Services Championships in Bhubaneswar.
Muhammed Ajmal explains his switch in an interview “In India, there is a better probability of making the international events in the 400m. Otherwise, one has to be outstanding as a sprinter to make it in the 100m.”
His target is to break the national record held by a fellow athlete from Kerala Mohammed Anas of 45.21s.
Ajmal finished third with the timing of 46.04 at the 7th International Sprint & Relay Cup, Atatürk University Stadium in Turkey. He won the gold at the Inter-Services Championship in 2021 with a time of 46.91m. He started 2022 strong by winning gold at the Indian Grand Prix with a time of 46.78s.
He followed that up with a silver medal at the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship with improved timing of 46.48s. Ajmal is now focused on doing well at the upcoming Commonwealth and Asian Games later this year.

Muhammed Ajmal Athlete Commonwealth Games 2022
India has a very strong relay team going into the Commonwealth Games 2022. Amjad feels he has a better chance of winning a medal in a relay competition than individual events. He will be hoping that he can put up a strong performance to help the team win a medal in the 4 x 400m relay. He will also like to make his mark in the Asian games late this year.
