Ram Singh Yadav Biography: Ram Singh Yadav is a marathon runner from India. The runner shot to fame after his participation at the Summer Olympics 2012 where he represented his homeland, India.

In the same year, Yadav also acquired a B qualification standard with a clock time of 2:16:59 at the Mumbai Marathon, which is considered one of his exceptional performances of his athletic journey.

Singh is also the second athlete from India who got qualified for the Olympics in the marathon discipline.

Before Ram, Shivnath Singh was the Indian athlete who competed at the Summer Olympics (1976) held in Montreal.

EARLY LIFE

During his initial age, Ram used to run a lot. The runner’s family wanted him to join the army.His parents had high hopes that their son will achieve a good source of income with the help of his running talent.

From the very beginning, Ram dreamed to help his family to come out of the poverty they have always been in.Ram took his training from the Army Sports Institute in Pune.

PERSONAL LIFE

Ram Singh Yadav was born in Babiyan village, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The runner’s father was a small fruit-seller in Mumbai. In 2001, Yadav married Urmila Yadav. The couple has three children namely Ankit, Alok, and Amit.

Today Ram is working as a havildar in the Indian Army in Hyderabad’s Artillery Centre. The runner also trains at the Army Sports Institute in Pune.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

In 2008, Ram Singh Yadav lost the B qualification standard (2:18:00) by a couple of seconds at the Mumbai Marathon for the qualification for the 2009 Beijing Olympics Marathon event and hence got disqualified. 

Yadav finished at the tenth position with a clock time of 2:18:23 in the final round. 

In 2012, Ram participated in his very first event at the Mumbai Marathon. Unfortunately, the runner failed to achieve an Olympic berth in the event. 

Yadav clocked 2:16:59 to complete the marathon race. In the final standings, Yadav was placed at 12th overall. Ram Singh Yadav is the second Indian athlete ever to get qualified in the marathon discipline of the Olympics.
