Marcus Gideon Biography: Marcus Gideon is an Indonesian Badminton player, who rose to fame after winning 7 super series titles in 2017 and 9 World tour titles in 2018. He along with Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo were honoured with BWF Best male players of the year for 2 consecutive years in 2017 and 2018. Marcus Gideon is often referred to as a minion for his short height.

EARLY LIFE: 

Marcus Fernaldi Gideon was born on May 9, 1991, and as a child, he grew up watching his father coach the youngsters and the age of just 9 he fell in love with the sports. By the age of 13, he started playing the sport professionally.

Under his father mentorship, he pursued his professional career winning various tournaments in singles, but soon shifted his to doubles in 2011. The move clicked for him as he won his maiden doubles title in the Singapore International series. Since then there was no looking back for the badminton player.

PERSONAL LIFE: 

Marcus Gideon is a son of former national level badminton player Kurniahu. He tried to imitate his father during childhood and as the time passed he fell in love with the sport and went on to become one of the greats. He married Agnes Amelinda, a general practitioner by profession on 14th April 2018 and was blessed with a son on 29th January 2019. The son was named Marcus Fernaldi Gideon Jr.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE: 

Gideon started his professional career at the age of 13 after he started practising professionally and even received the scholarship in Singapore. He won his first-ever international men’s singles at the Victorian International a Future Series event.

In the year 2011, he partnered with Agripina Prima Rahmanto and won the 2011 Singapore and 2012 Iran International tournaments. He won his first-ever super series title at the 2013 French Open with Kido, a year later he won his second doubles title at the 2014 Indonesia Masters.

In 2015, he won the gold medal in the men’s team event and silver in men’s double event at the South Asian Games. In 2016, he won the super series title in men doubles in India and Australia. He has already won gold in men doubles at the Asian games 2018 and is not eying the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

CONTROVERSY: 

In 2018, the shuttler was seen exchanging heated words with the umpire after him along with Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo suffered a shocking defeat in a group B in the Thomas Cup finals at Impact Arena.

The controversy erupted when his service was faulted three times in the game. The umpire kept faulting and that affected the Gideon game and he lost the game. He called the decision unfair.
