Marco Jansen Early life
Marco Jansen born 1 May 2000 is a South African cricketer who has represented both the national side and the North West in domestic matches.Jansen used to open the batting order when he was younger. He scored 164 not out in a 20-over contest when he was nine years old. His father watched his game and noticed his skills and ability. Later, he and his twin brother Duan worked out in the nets with Jansen. Duan also represents North West in cricket.
Marco Jansen Domestic Career
On April 8, 2018, Jansen made his List A debut for North West in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge. On October 11, 2018, he made his first-class debut for North West in the 2018–19 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup.He was picked to the South African national under-19 cricket team’s squad in January 2019, ahead of their visit to India.In the 2018–19 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup, he was the leading wicket-taker for North West, with 27 dismissals in six matches.
Jansen was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction in February 2021, ahead of the 2021 Indian Premier League. On April 9, 2021, Jansen made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In his four overs, he got two wickets for 28 runs, including Glenn Maxwell, who was his first IPL wicket. He was picked by Eastern Province’s squad later that month, ahead of the 2021–22 cricket season in South Africa.
Recently, he was bagged by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League in February 2022.
Marco Jansen International Career
Jansen was named in South Africa’s Test squad for the series versus Pakistan in January 2021. On December 26, 2021, he made his Test debut against India. Wiaan Mulder caught Jasprit Bumrah at third slip for his first test wicket. He received his first One Day International (ODI) call-up in January 2022, for South Africa’s series against India. On January 19, 2022, he made his ODI debut for South Africa against India.
