Manchester United upset PSG at Parc des Princess

Despite several concerns regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactical in adaptiveness and player’s lack of match sharpness, Manchester United have started their Champions League in an emphatic fashion at Parc des Princes. Thomas Tuchel’s Paris St Germain were defeated on Tuesday by the passionate Red Devils with a  2-1 scoreline. This was the first home defeat in 16 years for Paris St-Germain in the Champions League group stage.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started the game with a 3-5-2 formation with Axel Tuanzebe and Luke Shaw starting alongside Victor Lindelof at the central defense. Alex Telles was given a full debut at the wing-back position on the left flank. Surprisingly, Paul Pogba was left on the bench despite being rested against Newcastle United.

Both the teams started the game cautiously but PSG were threatening with few beautiful passes and shots from Kylian Mbappe and Angel di Maria. However, Aaron wan-Bissaka and David de Gea were upto the task which made life difficult for PSG players. Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot to give Manchester United the lead. The first shot was saved from Keylor Navas but was allowed to retake the penalty since the player had encroached. The teams went to the break with Red Devils leading the scoreline.

In the second half, PSG started the game with the purpose of finding an equaliser but David de Gea was upto the task. He saved the ball from finding the back of the net. Axel Tuanzebe and Fred marked Mbappe perfectly and avoided any goals. However, the ball deflected off Anthony Martial in the 55th minute and PSG found the equaliser.

Three minutes from full-time, Marcus Rashford scored a beautiful goal after he turned away from Kimpember and Diallo. The game was then closed out by defensive prowess by Manchester United defenders.
