When Luke Pomersbach was Arrested over Molestation Charges during IPL 2012

It was the biggest controversy of IPL 2012 that hit the tournament popularity like an asteroid hitting the earth. He was the high profile foreign recruit for Royal Challengers Bangalore was allegedly arrested for molesting a US Woman named Zohal Hamid and also thrashing her boyfriend at Delhi five star hotel, the Maurya Sheraton.

An immediate complaint was registered against the Pomersbach under IPC section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 323 (hurt), 454 (lurking house trespass) and 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment).

The Complainant to the nearby Primus hospital in an injured condition, he was bleeding from the left ear and was immediately kept under observation in the ICU for the next 24 hours.

Luke Pomersbach was taken to the Patiala house court, where he fainted amid the hearing and was taken out of the courtroom. Such incident created rift in the various corners of Indian politics, BJP MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad alleged the foreign cricketers of taking undue advantage of Indian conditions.

Rajiv Shukla, Chairman of the IPL governing council stated “Let the law take its course,We have done away with official parties. So if some individual player does something in his individual capacity in a hotel, IPL has nothing to do with it,”.

Royal Challengers Bangalore ex. Owner Vijay Mallya assured that Luke Pomersbach will no longer be the part of IPL, in a statement issued; he said “The Royal Challengers Bangalore regrets the incident involving Luke Pomersbach. We will ensure full co-operation with the concerned authorities so that a fair investigation takes place and the issue is disposed of in accordance with law. Pending disposal of this matter Luke Pomersbach will not take the field for The Royal Challengers Bangalore”.
