It is not easy being an extremely talented athlete and bringing a lot of laurels to your nation while still not being recognized and called the second-best in the country. Kishore Jena has had such a life because Neeraj Chopra is India’s best javelin thrower. Even after dealing with all this stuff, Kishore Jena has not given up and done the hard work day in and day out. As a result, he is all set to be a part of the Indian contingent that will travel to Paris for the Summer Olympics in 2024.

Personal Life

Kishore Kumar Jena was born into a family that relied on agricultural produce for their survival. His parents, Keshab and Harapriya Jena, were paddy farmers in Kothasahi village in Odisha’s Puri district and did the job throughout the day. Jena started his career as a volleyball player but switched to javelin after being turned down by a sports hostel owing to his small stature.

He has been engaged with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Bhopal since 2018 and is a renowned officer as well. Jena has received acclaim for his exploits in javelin, most notably capturing a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Games and finishing well at the World Athletics Championships. ​

Career

Before the year 2023, Kishore Jena was not very successful in this field, as he had still not mastered the art of throwing a javelin. But since the year 2023, Jena’s career has taken off. Jena earned the silver medal at the national championships in Bhubaneswar in June 2023.

The following month, on July 30, 2023, in Diyagama, Sri Lanka, he recorded his second-best throw of 84.38 meters. This great performance prepared him for the 2023 World Athletics Championships, which were held in Budapest in August 2023. Despite initial visa issues, Jena finished fifth in the Javelin Throw Final with a then-personal best throw of 84.77 meters.

Jena’s upward trajectory continued as he competed at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou on October 4, 2023. He had a great effort, winning the silver medal with a new personal best throw of 87.54 meters. 

This victory not only constituted an important turning point in his career but also demonstrated his tenacity and will to succeed on the global stage. Jena’s steady development and success in these big tournaments establish his place as a notable figure in the javelin throw, representing his country with distinction and setting new standards for future competitors.
