EARLY LIFE

Jitender Kumar began his boxing journey when he was 17 years old. And since then he has never looked back.

From an early age, Jitender Kumar has followed an important philosophy that is giving 100% to the work handed to him and enjoying while doing it rather than considering it as a burden.

His sportsman spirit helped him to taste a fair success at his amateur boxing days.

Despite all odd situations, Kumar faced in his boxing journey, he emerged as a winner.

Jitender Kumar was born on 18th July 1988 in Devsar, Bhiwani, Haryana, India. He was born to a well-to-do family. Jitender’s father was a principal in the Government School & his mother is also a retired teacher.

With the full support of his family especially his brother Virender Singh and his father Sh. Om Prakash, Jitender was able to grab success in his career.

Jitender Kumar tied the knots with fashion designer Yamini Sharma in 2016. The boxer has one brother & two sisters who are well settled today. Today, the boxer is working in the Haryana Police as DSP.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Jitender Kumar has competed in so many big tournaments across the world. In 2006, Jitender competed at the Junior World Championships but he was defeated by the World Champion, Sergey Vodopyanov.

In the same year, the Indian boxer also lost the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games to Don Broadhurst.

But at the second Olympic qualifier, Kumar beat Noman Karim. Unfortunately, he lost the semi-final to Mirat Sardembayev after winning all the significant 3rd place bouts.

In 2008, Jitender Kumar competed against Ulas Furkan Memis from Turkey in the 32nd round at the Summer Olympics. Jitender led the third round until the referee stopped the match.

In the 16th round, Jitender competed against Tulashboy Doniyorov from Uzbek. With his excellent performance, Jitender outscored the Uzbek player but his journey at Beijing Olympics came to an end when the boxer lost the match to Russian Georgy Balakshin in the quarter-finals at the Workers Indoor Arena.

Kumar had nine stitches in his jaw while competing in the quarterfinal. For the Olympics, he was trained by the Indian Boxing Coach named Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu.
