ANILDA THOMAS BIOGRAPHY:  Anilda Thomas is an Indian sprinter who specializes in 400 meters and 4 x 400 meters relay event. She represents India in 400 meters event and is popularly known for representing India at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics in 4 x 400 m relay team event.

Anilda was born on May 6 1993 in the village of Kothamangalam, Kerala. Her home town is Ernakulam and currently lives in Trivandrum, India.

Anilda got married at the age of 24 to her six year long relationship partner Jibin who was her classmate since the seventh standard. They had a love marriage and after being in a relationship for six years they finally tied the knots in 2017. Her husband Jibin, who is himself an athlete hails from Kodhamangalam in Kerala. They got married at a Church in Thodupuza and are a happy couple.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE:

Personal Best: She clocked a personal best of 52.40 seconds at the third Indian Grand Prix in Patiala.
Event: Women’s 4×400 meters
Career Highlights: She was the fastest runner in the women’s 400 m event in 2015.
Rio Olympics qualification: Third Indian Grand Prix athletics — clocking 3:27.88 seconds — to qualify for Rio 2016 Olympics.

Anilda started her career at an early age as she used to participate in the athletics events in her school competitions which she continued till her graduation. Anilda has participated in various sports events and is also a National Champion. She got the fastest runner’s tag in the women’s 400 meters event. Anilda also represented India at the Asian Indoors Championships. Besides, she has also participated in 200 meters event, but specializes mainly in 400 meters and 4 x 400 meters event.

Controversies:
Controversy knocked Anilda’s door when  she received a threatening mail from the Athletics Federation of India and the National coach, urging her to join the National camp. She kept herself separated from the training camp under Ukrainian coach Yuri Ogorodnik. The Ukrainian was the head coach back in 2011 when doping scandals rocked the women’s relay team. Two athletes in the women relay team were banned due to doping incident. However, Anilda trained separately under her coach P.B. Jaikumar and she came back strong with her good run to seal a name for herself in the International event.
