EARLY LIFE
Jamie Vardy was born Jamie Richard Gill in Sheffield, England, on 11 January 1987. He grew up in Sheffield and was in the youth system of Sheffield Wednesday, who released him at 16. He nearly gave up football but went on to play for Stocksbridge Park Steels, a non-league club near Sheffield, from 2006 to 2010, while working in a factory.

Vardy married Rebekah Nicholson on 25 May 2016. They have three children together, and Vardy also has a child from an earlier relationship. He is stepfather to Rebekah's two children from previous relationships. In 2016 he launched the V9 Academy, a programme that gives non-league players a chance to be seen by professional clubs.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
In June 2010 Vardy joined FC Halifax Town for a reported fee of 15,000 pounds. He scored 25 goals in his first season as Halifax won the Northern Premier League Premier Division in 2010-11. In August 2011 he moved to Fleetwood Town, where he scored 31 league goals in 2011-12. Fleetwood won the Conference Premier title and he was the league's top scorer.
In May 2012 Leicester City signed him for a reported 1 million pounds, a record fee for a non-league player. After a difficult first season, he helped Leicester win the Championship in 2013-14 and reach the Premier League.
In 2015-16 Vardy scored in 11 Premier League matches in a row, breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy's record, and won the Premier League Player of the Month award for October and November 2015. Leicester, managed by Claudio Ranieri, won the Premier League title that season. Vardy was named FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season. In June 2016 he turned down a move to Arsenal and signed a new contract with Leicester. In 2016-17 he played in Leicester's first Champions League campaign, which ended in the quarter-finals.
In 2019-20 he scored 23 Premier League goals to win the Golden Boot, becoming its oldest winner. He won the FA Cup with Leicester in 2020-21 and the FA Community Shield in 2021. After Leicester were relegated in 2023, he helped them win the Championship again in 2023-24. He played his final home match for Leicester on 18 May 2025 against Ipswich Town and left the club at the end of the season, with 200 goals in 500 appearances in all competitions.
Cremonese and Burnley (2025 to 2026)
On 1 September 2025 Vardy joined US Cremonese in Italy's Serie A as a free agent. He scored 7 league goals in 29 appearances in 2025-26 and was named Serie A Player of the Month for November 2025, the first English player to win the award. He left Cremonese at the end of the season. On 6 September 2026 he joined Burnley as a free agent on a one-season contract and took the number 9 shirt.
