IPL 2023 : Watch Shubman Gill become the 2nd Indian since Virat Kohli to score more than 2 Centuries in single season!

Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill was breathing fire last night during the Qualifier 2 match against 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After losing the toss, GT batted first and Shubman Gill smacked an outstanding Century to lay the foundation for an emphatic victory for Hardik Pandya’s side.

Co-incidentally, it was Gill who prevented Royal Challengers Bangalore from entering IPL 2023 play-offs and helped Mumbai Indians finish 4th. And last night it was Shubman Gill who led to the removal of MI from the tournament itself.

The 23-year-old is currently the leading run-scorer in IPL 2023 as he overtook Faf Du Plesis to the become the Orange Cap leader with 851 runs. With his 3rd century this season, Shubman Gill also joined his inspiration Virat Kohli in a prestigious IPL record.

The Punjab born cricketer has now become only the 2nd Indian Batsman after Virat Kohli to score at least 3 Centuries in a single Indian Premier League edition. Back in 2016, Kohli smashed 4 Centuries as he played out his most prolific IPL season ever, scoring 973 runs and winning the Orange Cap.

Last year, Rajasthan Royals’ English opener Jos Buttler had also scored 4 Centuries to finish off with 863 runs. And with his 129 off 60 balls, Shubman Gill is overall the 3rd Batter to score the most centuries in an IPL season.

Shubman Gill surpasses 800+ runs in IPL 2023

As Virat Kohli said “There is potential and then there is Shubman Gill”, no lies can be seen in those lines. For a fact, Shubman Gill is being considered as the next star boy of Indian cricket for a reason. Last night, he was batting at a strike rate of 215, which is just so daunting for opposing bowlers.

After joining Kohli in the Centuries list, the 23-year-old has also become the 2nd Indian batter to amass 800+ runs in a single edition. Overall, he is also the 3rd Batter to score more than 800 runs. In 2016, Virat Kohli scored 973 runs while Jos Buttler scored 863 runs.

Shubamn Gill currently has 851 runs and needs only 13 runs to score the 2nd highest runs in a single season.
