Ederson was born on 17th August 1993 in Osasco Sao Paulo, Brazil in a family of moderate means. Growing up, due to lack of finances, he didn’t get proper comfort and suitable financial upbringing. He started playing football with the local club Sao Paulo FC in 2008. After spending a year over there he made his exit in a bid to move to the Benfica in Portugal at the age of 16. He spent two years over there after which he left for Second Division side Ribeirao in 2011. But just after one year, he joined the Rio Ave a Primeira Liga side. Seeing his good strings of performances, In the year 2012, he officially signed a contract with Rio Ave which extended till 2019 after the club witnessed his performances in the Brazil under-23 squad.

On 27th June 2015, Ederson joined the Benfica for a five-year contract. Playing for the club he played some matches in the Segunda Liga with the reserve team while in Taca da Liga with the main squad, he also became the part of the Primeira Liga, as a replacement for the injured Julio Cesar.
He played a crucial role as a goalkeeper at the quarter-finals of the Champions League, however, his team failed to qualify for further matches. In the following season, he and Benfica won the treble of Premiera Liga, Taca de Portugal, and Supertaca Candido de Oliveira. On June 1st, 2017, he joined the Premier Club Manchester City for the cost of 35 million euros. He played his debut match for the club on 12 August 2017, in a 0-2 win at Brighton and Hove Albion. On 19th August 2018, he became the first Manchester City Goalkeeper who provided an assist at the Premier League for a goal-kick converted by Sergio Aguero against the Huddersfield Town. The match was won by Manchester City by 6-1.
