The sad news for fans will be that 23 time Grand Slam Champion Serena Williams will not play the marquee event based on the advice of her medical team. However, organizers have clarified that Novak’s name is on the list but that doesn’t guarantee that the ace Serbian player will play in the upcoming mega event.

Following the advice of my medical team, I have decided to withdraw from this year’s Australian Open,” Williams said in a statement.

“While this is never an easy decision to make, I am not where I need to be physically to compete. I will miss seeing the fans but am excited to return and compete at my highest level.”

However, Djokovic has confirmed to one of the media outlets, he is excited about the opportunity and very soon he will be traveling to Australia where he will chase his record 21st Grand Slam Title.

The 34-year-old was also named in the Serbia team for the ATP Cup, which will be held in Sydney in early January when that was released on Tuesday.

However, Djokovic still holds a great chance of winning the marquee event as players like Federer are not participating in the competition is recovering from injuries.

Of late, Medvedev have given a rough nightmare to ace Serbian player with the latest one being Olympics 2020 where Djokovic was considered as favorite but his hope of winning four single title along with the Olympic medal went to vain due to valiant performance from his Russian counterpart.
