Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, an Indian goalkeeper who competes for Goa in the Indian Super League, was born on July 4, of the year 2000. Dheeraj Singh’s performance at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup brought him fame.
Club career
Born in the state of Manipur of the country India, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem was part of the AIFF Elite Academy batch preparing for the FIFA U-17 World Cup of the year 2017. After the tournament, he was selected to play for the Indian Arrows, an All India Football Federation-owned team. He made his professional debut in the Arrows’ first match against Chennai City, keeping a clean sheet. Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem ended his contract with the AIFF Elite Academy to attend the football trials in the country Europe, starting with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
Dheeraj represented Kerala Blasters in the 2018-19 Indian Super League season, playing 13 league matches and one Super Cup match. His impressive performance earned him place in the India U23 National Team. After an impressive season, he signed for Indian Super League side ATK for the 2019-20 season, playing only one match. After the merger of ATK with Mohun Bagan, he signed for ATK Mohun Bagan for the 2020-21 Indian Super League Season but made no appearance.
Dheeraj Singh, a goalkeeper from Goa, signed a three-year contract with the team in January 2021. He made his debut against SC East Bengal in a 1-1 draw and made nine appearances, keeping his first clean-sheet in the last league game against Hyderabad FC. He played in both legs of the semi-final against Mumbai City FC, keeping two cleansheets in nine appearances.
Dheeraj was named in the AFC Champions League team of matchday for his performance against Al-Rayyan and Al Wahda, and won the man of the match award in a football match against Persepolis. Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem made 26 saves in five football matches, topping the goalkeeping chart of the West Zone group league stage. In November 2021, he was named in the AFC Champions League team of the season.
Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem made two appearances in Goa’s 2021 Durand Cup (football tournament) winning campaign and made fifteen appearances in the 2021-22 ISL season, with his sole clean sheet coming in a 5-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC.
International Football Career
Dheeraj played as the first choice goalkeeper for India U17 in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, playing all three group matches. Despite not keeping a clean sheet, he was praised for his technique and skills. Dheeraj was also the first choice goalkeeper for India U23 in the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers, earning his spot after a successful season with the Kerala Blasters in the 2018-19 ISL Season. Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem made his international football debut against the football team of Qatar U23 in an international friendly for the 2019 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers.
