Dhanalakshmi Sekar is the sprint queen of India. She is 24 years old and comes from a humble background. She made everyone take notice of her when she beat Dutee Chand to the gold in the 100m heat and followed it up by outsprinting former world junior champion Hima Das in the 200m heats at the 2021 Federation Cup. She has also represented India at the Tokyo Olympics.

Dhanalakshmi Sekar Early Life:

Dhanalakshmi Sekar was born on the 5th of June 1998 in Guntur, Tamil Nadu. She lost her father when she was quite young, and with the aid of her mother, she finished school. She finished her studies at Marcel RC HSS in Trichy and at Alava College in Mangalore, where she received her diploma. She initially wanted to find a decent job for her living and her family. She is living in Patiala, Punjab.

 

Dhanalakshmi Sekar Professional Life:

Dhanalakshmi Sekar competed at the 2018 Tamil Nadu State Championships and claimed third place in both women’s 100m and 200m events. She won a bronze medal in the women’s 200m event at the 2019 Federation Cup. Dhanalakshmi also clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 200m event during the 2019 Inter-State Athletics Championships which was held in Lucknow. In the 2019 Inter-State Championships, she won the gold medal with the Tamil Nadu state team in the women’s 4×100m relay event.

In March 2021, she did something spectacular, she broke the women’s 200m Federation Cup meet record which was held by legendary sprinter PT Usha for about 23 years. This made everybody take her seriously. Dhanalakshmi Sekar competed in 4 × 400 meters at the Tokyo Olympics which is a dream for any athlete.

The year 2022 has been a very productive year for Dhanalakshmi. She won the gold medal in the 200m sprint at the Indian Grand Prix with a time of 23.21s. On the 4th of June, she won the gold medal in both 100m and 200m sprints at the 7th International Sprint & Relay Cup in Turkey. Now she wants to make a real impact by winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games later this year.

Now that Dhanalakshmi is one of the top woman sprinters in India, expectations are high for her to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. She has beaten Dutee Chand and Hima Das which is no small feat.

Unfortunately, Indian Sprinter Dhanalakshmi Sekar who had recently timed the third best ever timings for an Indian athlete sprinter in 200m with 22.98s have been tested positive for the banned supplements in a test conducted by the athletics Integrity Unit an international anti-doping body.

All the hard work and struggle Dhanalaxmi has gone through in vain this moment where she can write her name in history by winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Indian sprinter, Dhanalakshmi Sekar was born in Gundur village near Tiruchirapalli, Tamilnadu. Dhanalakshmi Sekar’s father died when she was 7. Her mother works as a domestic laborer. Dhanalakshmi has two younger sisters.

Dhanalaksmi Sekar booked her place for the 4x400m mixed relay team from the Tokyo Olympics games. After meeting her family the Indian sprinter came to know the tragic death news of her sister, Gayathri who died on July 12

Although, Dhanalakshmi’s mother didn’t inform her about the passing of her younger sister as they wanted her to focus on Tokyo Olympics.
