On Wednesday at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, Team India struggled against Australia in the opening innings of the third Test. The team captained by Rohit Sharma chose to bat first, but was eventually dismissed for 109 runs as the spin combo of Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann set off a rampage and destroyed the core of the Indian batting order. After sitting out the previous two games, young hitter Shubman Gill was eventually selected for the playing XI after taking the place of an underperforming KL Rahul. Nevertheless, Former Indian Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar was incensed by Gill’s behaviour on the field.

In the eighth over of India’s innings, Gill performed a dive to return to the crease in time after running for a single on Cameroon Green’s delivery. The right-handed batter suffered a slight wound below his abdomen from a scrape. The game had to be stopped when Gill yelled out for medical assistance.

Gavaskar, who was commentating the game, observed this and commented, “For Shubman Gill, there has been some repair work. I tell you what, he dove to make his crease. This may have been postponed. This may have been put off till the very end of the over. A fast bowler is currently bowling; he has delivered four deliveries; it is hot; and you have given him a break. You are harmed, yes, but just wait for the next two delivery. Wait for the over to end before receiving treatment. You are not at the striker’s end; rather, you are at the non-end. striker’s Small adjustments can have a big impact.” therefore Gavaskar said this while expressing his views towards the incident.
