The seventh seed and one of the players to watch out for in this Slam, Coco Gauff, was knocked out in the first round yesterday in a huge upset by Sofia Kenin. Gauff won one set in the match, but it was not enough as Kenin was the determinant and the better player on the day.

The top seed, Iga Swiatek, and the second seed, Aryna Sabalenka, won their respective matches dominantly and beat their opponents in straight sets with the same scoreline of 6-3, 6-1. Both of these players have announced their arrival on the grass court with authority.

The defending champion Elena Rybakina also had a good start to her tournament, as she lost the first set in her first-round match against American Shelby Rogers but made a roaring comeback and won the next two sets. Rybakina is going to be a tough opponent for everyone in this tournament.

Other top players such as Ons Jabeur, Caroline Garcia, Jessica Pegula, etc. have also begun the tournament with a win and moved on to the second round of Wimbledon 2023. In a wildcard match between Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina, Svitolina got the better of the legendary tennis player and moved ahead to the second round.

The women’s singles category at Wimbledon 2023 is going to be very interesting, with all the players playing the same level of tennis and the competition being high as well. The battle is going to be very intense from the second round onward for that golden plate as a winner of the biggest Grand Slam in tennis.
