Ons Jabeur was successful in getting her revenge over Elena Rybakina this time. The match went on for three sets until we got our winner. Rybakina started the match strongly, taking the first set in the tiebreaker. In the second set, she was ahead of Jabeur and was on the verge of breaking her serve, but the Tunisian showed her exceptional skills and took the second set 6-4.
The third set was just a formality, as Jabeur was all over Rybakina until then and won the set 6-1 to conclude this epic quarterfinal. Ons Jabeur will now face the second seed, Aryna Sabalenka, in the semi-final match on Centre Court today.
Arya Sabalenka, who was not allowed to play at Wimbledon last year, has been sensational in this tournament so far. She beat the American Madison Keys in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, and showed her dominance to the whole tennis fraternity. Sabalenka stamped her authority on the Centre Court and will be up against a spirited Ons Jabeur in the semis.
In the other semi-final, two unseeded superstars will be fighting for a spot in the Wimbledon women’s singles final in 2023. The comeback women, Elina Svitolina and Marketa Vondrousova have defied all odds in this Grand Slam and are now in the semi-finals.
Svitolina has defeated multiple Grand Slam champions on her way to the semis in Wimbledon 2023, including the top seed and recent Roland Garros champion, Iga Swiatek. Vondrousova’s journey has also been really great, as she defeated the number 4 seed, Jessica Pegula, in the quarterfinals against all odds.
Both the women’s singles semis will be played on Centre Court today, where all four players will be fighting for a spot in the Wimbledon 2023 women’s singles final.
