Virat Kohli’s 51st ODI Century Diminishes Pakistan’s Hope in Champions Trophy 2025

Virat Kohli scored his 51st One Day International (ODI) century. He helped India win against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday. This win puts India in a strong position. On the other hand, this loss makes it very difficult for Pakistan to move forward in the tournament. Pakistan now needs other results to go their way. They must hope Bangladesh beats New Zealand on Monday. Then, Pakistan has to defeat Bangladesh in their last group match. Even then, the team’s net run rate will likely decide their fate.

Virat Kohli played very well and reached his century in 111 balls. He hit 7 fours in his innings. Kohli scored his century on the last ball of the match by hitting a boundary. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer supported Kohli, who scored a half-century in 63 balls. He started slowly but once set he played at a rapid pace.

Earlier in the match, Kohli reached 14,000 ODI runs faster than anyone else. He beat Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Tendulkar reached this milestone in 350 innings and Kohli did it in just 287 innings. Kohli reached 14,000 runs when he scored 15 runs in the chase against Pakistan.

Kohli is only the third batter to reach this milestone. Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka also achieved this. Sangakkara reached it in 378 innings in 2015. Kohli only needed 10 innings to go from 13,000 to 14,000 runs. In September 2023, Kohli reached 13,000 ODI runs while playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Colombo.

Before India batted, they bowled out Pakistan for 241 runs. Saud Shakeel scored the most runs for Pakistan. He made 62 runs off 76 balls. Pakistan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, scored 46 runs off 77 balls. Shakeel and Rizwan added 104 runs together.

Khushdil Shah scored 38 runs off 39 balls. This helped Pakistan get more runs. Pakistan had trouble when they were at 165 for five wickets. This happened at the start of the 37th over.

Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets. Hardik Pandya took two wickets. Pandya dismissed Babar Azam and Shakeel. This helped India control Pakistan’s batting.

The whole game was exciting. Virat Kohli showed amazing form and his history of achievements continues to pile up. Indians were thrilled at his milestone achievement. Whereas, the Pakistani team now has a very stressful waiting game, hoping for other results to go their way.
