MS Dhoni, CSK, IPL, Indian Premier League

Very hopeful that MS Dhoni will play IPL 2025: CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan

The former Indian and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni may participate as a player in the IPL 2025. In a recent statement, the  CEO of CSK, Kasi Viswanathan said that the management is very hopeful that MS Dhoni will be available for the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year.

After the CSK’s heartbreak defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final match of the league stage, Chennai was out of the playoff contention, it was speculated that IPL 2024 could be the last season for the legendary captain MS Dhoni. But Viswanathan asserted that it is completely up to Mahi to decide his future with CSK.

On CSK’s YouTube channel Kasi Viswanathan said, “I do not know. It is a question which only MS can answer. The question for us, we have always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him.”

“As all of you know, he has always taken his decisions and announced them at the appropriate time. We do expect that we will get a decision as and when he decides. But we are very, very hopeful that he will be available for CSK the next year. That is the view and expectations of the fans and mine,” he added.

CSK finished in the 5th position this season. Before the season’s opener game against RCB, Dhoni handed captaincy responsibility to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni has led CSK to a record 5 Indian Premier League (IPL) title in his captaincy stint.

If MS Dhoni decides to continue to play in the IPL, CSK will undoubtedly retain him. Later this year a mega IPL auction has also been scheduled but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not given any clarity to IPL franchise owners on how many players they can retain before the upcoming auction.

Kasi Viswanathan said that discussions are yet to take place with the BCCI on how many players a team can retain. He is expecting that the BCCI will discuss with every team before they make any decision on player retention policy.

Viswanathan said, “It is too early because we have still not heard from BCCI on the kind of retentions which are going to be part of the next cycle of auction. So we are expecting that the BCCI would discuss with all franchise owners before they take a decision on retention.”
