Sunil Joshi is a Former Indian cricketer who played for India between 1996-2001 in ODI and Test cricket formats. He announced retirement from the International cricket in 2012 before taking up the job of coaching as a full-time career. He has been appointed as the Chairman of the BCCI’s Selection Committee of the India National Cricket Team on March 4, 2020.
Sunil Joshi Early Life
Sunil Joshi was born on June 6, 1970, in the Gadag city of Karnataka, India. He was born in a Kannada speaking Deshastha Brahmin family. He grew up playing cricket and he traveled to Hubballi, 64 km away from his home for his cricket practice. He did his schooling from a school in Gadag.

Sunil played for India in 2001 against Bangladesh and since then he couldn’t return to the national team. He continued playing in the First Class cricket till 2011 before retiring from all forms of cricket. He took up the job of coaching as he has coached Hyderabad and Jammu & Kashmir state teams in the Ranji Trophy. Under his coaching, Hyderabad entered in the Quarter-finals of the Superleague Ranji Trophy.
In 2015 he was named as the spin bowling coach of the Oman Cricket team for the ICC 2016 World T20 tournament. In 2016, he was also named as the head coach of the Assam Cricket Team for the two Ranji seasons.
In 2017 he was named as spin bowling consultant of Bangladesh cricket team, enjoying a successful stint with the side. In July 2019 he was appointed as the spin bowling coach of the US national cricket team.
In the Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab appointed him as the spin bowling coach.
The former spinner has been appointed as the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the India National Cricket Team.
Sunil Joshi Cricketing career:
Making his debut First-Class debut in the 1992-1993 season, he played for Karnataka in the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy Super League against Baroda. He made his ODI debut on September 1, 1996, against Zimbabwe, taking 2 wickets on his International debut game. He also got his test cap on June 1, 1996, against England where he impressed everyone with the bat by scoring 93 & 99 runs in both the innings.
Sunil Joshi also played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first edition of the Indian Premier League in 2008. He has played only four matches in IPL, scoring 6 runs and taking just 1 wicket in her IPL career. He has played 15 Tests and 69 ODI matches for India before announcing retirement from all forms of cricket 2012.
