India's Star player Sania Mirza announces her retirement

Sania Mirza, one of the greatest tennis players of India has declared that the WTA 1000 competition in Dubai in February 2023 will be her last match. She intends to retire following the Dubai Masters next month. Before her last appearance, she will play the Women’s Doubles in the Australian Open from 16th to 29th January this month.

Sania started playing tennis when she was six years old and went pro in 2003. Her father gave her training. As a junior tennis player, Mirza won ten singles and thirteen doubles championships. In 2003, she and Alisa Kleybanova took home the girls’ doubles trophy at the Wimbledon Championships. In addition, she and Sanaa Bhambri advanced to the US Open girls’ doubles semifinals in 2003 and the quarterfinals in 2002.

When it comes to her senior level career, Mirza began to demonstrate early success and made her debut on the ITF Circuit in April 2001 at the age of 15 years. Later, she became the recipient of many titles such as she won six Grand Slam doubles titles and also became the first Indian to win a WTA Singles title in 2005.

Sania has been one of the most successful atheletes of India. Being the brand ambassador for many brands, she has been one of the most earning one also. She had the No. 1 singles ranking in India according to the Women’s Tennis Association from 2003 till her retirement from singles in 2013. Sania married Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010.

Now, as the ace player says goodbye to tennis after her final game in February, it will be an emotional moment for all as the 36 year old player contributed a plethora to the game.
