Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane feels that the side’s skipper Sergio Ramos should hang his boots at the Santiago Bernabeu. This statement comes from the Madrid boss as the contract of Ramos is about to expire at the end of the 2020-21 season.

“Sergio belongs here as a player. He’s been here for years and he should retire here. It’s what I think and I’ll stand by it,”  Zidane was quoted as saying to goal.com.

Zidane said this just after Real Madrid‘s win over Real Mallorca by 2-0 to regain the top position in the La Liga Standings, above their arch-rivals FC Barcelona

Ramos became the top-scoring defender in the history of La Liga as he netted one goal in a win against Real Sociedad this Monday, helping Madrid win the game by 2:1 score. He also became the first defender to score eight or more goals in a single LaLiga season since 2006-07 season as it was previously held by Ezequiel Garay back then.

“That’s four wins in a row, but the standout feature for us today was our defensive solidity all round. We can get better going forward and that’s what we’ll try to do.” Zidane said.

“It’s a strange situation, we’re back training after 60 days and with the heat and everything. But we have to keep going and all we can do is be more alert with the players, we want to keep moving forward strong,” he further added.

The Real Madrid is still firm in the current La Liga rankings with seven matches still left to go. They are tied with Barcelona with 68 points but owing to their better head to head record against them, they are the league toppers.

Real Madrid now faces Espanyol on 28th June this weekend for their next fixture of the La Liga.
