Indian Greco-Roman wrestler, Ravinder Khatri, specializes in the 85 kilograms discipline. He was the first wrestler who represented India in Greco Roman & Men’s freestyle at the Olympics.
EARLY LIFE
Ravinder was born on 15 May 1992 in Haryana, India. His father was a farmer by profession. He started his wrestling on the Akharas in his village named Bodia which is situated in Jhajjar district, Haryana. During a talent scouting test, the wrestler got selected by the Army Institute of Sport, Pune, in 2006. In 2011, he also became the Junior commissioned officer for the Jat Regiment.

Ravinder’s father was a farmer who wished to see one of his children to become a professional wrestler and wrestler Ravinder Khatri treated his father’s dream as his foremost duty which he wanted to fulfill at any cost. From an early age, Khatri began to train himself for wrestler very seriously.
The talented wrestler from Haryana’s Jhajjar district was selected by the Army Sports Institute when he was 14 years old. But things not turned out to be easy for Khatri. Due to financial problems, he struggled a lot to fulfill his dreams.
At this point, Ravinder Khatri got financial necessities from his coach. Khatri’s coach, Hawa Singh, helped him to start his career. Once he got the financial support, the wrestler didn’t stop there and started his hardcore training in wrestling. The 24-year-old wrestler successfully qualified in the 85 kg discipline for Rio. Ravinder Khatri stood on his father’s hope by acquiring numerous achievements as a professional wrestler.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
In 2016, Ravinder Khatri earned a bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in 85 kg Greco-Roman event. In the same year, Khatri got qualified for the Olympics with a silver medal in the tournament in which Janarbek Kenjeev (Kyrgyzstan) got disqualified.

CONTROVERSY
Wrestler Ravinder Khatri made headlines when his wife, Jyoti, accused him of having extramarital affair. Jyoti told all her problems to Suman Dahiya who is Haryana’s Women Commission Chief when she visited their village. She even accused that she was tortured by the Khatri family and she was not allowed to step out of the house. The wrestler was also arrested once for a dowry case.
