Uttar Pradesh wrestler Narsingh Pancham Yadav is one of them. Narsingh competes in the Men’s Freestyle 74 kilograms discipline. The Indian wrestler has won a gold medal in 74 kg category at 2010 Commonwealth Games.
EARLY LIFE:
Narsingh Yadav has comes from a family of moderate means. There was a time when the wrestler was unable to afford a bar of soap. His father bought scrap wheat for cheap price and they made “rotis” after grinding it. Often his parents fed him & his brother and they went to sleep empty stomach. Yadav’s family faced every hardship together and their struggles paid off when Narsingh Pancham Yadav was established as a professional wrestler and thereby competing in many international events for his country.

Narsingh Pancham Yadav, also known as Narsingh Yadav was born on 16 March 1989 in Neema village, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in India. He was born to Pancham Yadav and Bhulna Devi. His father was a milk distributor and his mother takes care and works on their land. Yadav started his preparation for his wrestling journey at the age of 13 along with his brother, Vinod Yadav, who too is a professional wrestler.
When Pancham Yadav came to know that both his children want to pursue their career in wrestling, he started distributing milk to fulfil their needs. He borrowed 40 km of bucket from local khatans and sold them at different places. Yadav family went through extreme poverty at their initial stage where they even slept hungry when their business experienced a slight loss. Due to poverty, only one Yadav brother could move ahead. Vinod Yadav let his younger brother move forward and quit his career in wrestling. Vinod fulfilled his father’s dream by attaining a job on the railway. In 2010, the fearless wrestler earned his first international medal and Yadav did not stop after that.
Narsingh Yadav married athlete Shilpi Sheoran on March 10, 2017.
On sports quota, the wrestler also got a DYSP post in Mumbai Police. Today, the Yadav family’s financial situation is not the same anymore. Narsingh’s achievements helped his family to move into an improved phase of life. Pancham Yadav is no more a milk distributor and now he rears cow at their house.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE:
Narsingh Pancham Yadav got the limelight at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Narsingh got a last-minute call as a replacement to compete in the freestyle 4-kilogram discipline. Without a second thought, Yadav participated & heroically earned the gold after defeating Richard Brian Addinall from South Africa.
In 2011, Yadav clinched a silver medal at the Commonwealth Championship in Australia. He lost the gold to Canadian Cleopas Ncube.
In 2012, Yadav was knocked out from the Olympics. He lost his opening match against Canadian Matt Gentry in the freestyle 74-kilogram discipline.
In 2014, Narsingh earned a bronze medal after competing against Rashid Kurbanov, Ramazan Kambarov, and Daisuke Shimada. Along with the bronze medal, he also received a 50 lakh cash prize by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh.
In 2015, Narsingh competed at the World Championship. He was selected in the 74 kilograms in the absence of Olympian Sushil Kumar. Although he lost in the qualification round, Narsingh was qualified for repechage round. He managed to clinch a bronze medal by outplaying Zhiger Zakirov from Kazakhstan.
Despite winning a bronze medal at the World Championships, Narsingh missed Summer Olympics in 2016 due to a knee injury.

CONTROVERSY:
Apart from his achievements and performances, the 30-year-old wrestler hit headlines when he was removed from the Olympics. Narsingh Yadav was also slapped with a 4 year for a doping offense. After many hearings, the wrestler was found guilty. This case somewhere shattered Yadav’s Olympic dream.
Also, Narsingh made headlines when he was found guilty of cheating in an internal exam after an inquiry. Following this incident, he was disqualified from the job of Deputy Superintendent of Police. He acquired the respective post after his win at the Commonwealth in 2010.
