Mesut Ozil: After remaining out of contention for about 4 weeks or so, the star Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is back into the Gunners squad.

The Arsenal boss Unai Emery confirmed that while addressing the pre-match press conference ahead of the match against Liverpool which will be a Carabao Cup affair.

It’s not certain if Ozil would be in the starting line-up against the Reds, but he is certainly going to be on the bench which means he would have the opportunity to make a substitute appearance at some stage.

“If he’s in the group he has a possibility to play.”, Emery said when asked about Ozil’s participation in the match.

Ozil, for the last few games of Arsenal, was not even among the reserve players and was being left out of the matchday squads altogether which wasn’t pleasing the fans at all.

The fans couldn’t understand why the German wasn’t being used in the centre of the pitch. He brings innovation to the midfield and Arsenal has been lacking the innovation. It was clear from the playing point of view that Ozil’s services were required.

There were rumours Emery wasn’t happy with Ozil’s attitude in the training, but Emery himself has been constantly saying to the press that the midfielder is training well which was why his exclusion was highly surprising for everyone.

Apart from Ozil’s comeback, Emery also announced that Granit Xhaka, who sparked a major controversy recently by confronting the home crowd at the Emirates Stadium, is going to be kept away from the Liverpool fixture.

According to Emery, Xhaka isn’t in a great frame of mind at the moment after what happened last weekend and it’s only when he gets over the incident that he can be brought back again.

“We are going to first recover him as a person because now he’s down. Then we will think on the team.” Emery told the reporters.

Emery has also rested David Luiz and Aubameyang for the Liverpool game with the view of keeping them fresh for the upcoming Premier League encounter against the Wolves.
