David Luiz also known as the Sideshow Bob is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for the Brazil national team and Premier League club Arsenal.
EARLY LIFE
David was born on 22nd April 1987 in Diadema, Sao Paulo, Brazil to mother Regina Celia Marinho and father Ladislau Marinho, both were retired school teachers.
PERSONAL LIFE
David is in a relationship with his girlfriend Sara Madeira. The couple is together since they were teenagers.
CLUB CAREER
David started his Football career through Sao Paulo FC Youth academy but was kicked out at the age of 14 after a series of disappointing appearances.
He then tried his luck in distant lands. He joined Salvador-based club Victoria after clearing the trials, but due to poor performances was released from the club.
He then moved to Benfica and switched his position as a central defender a role which David fared well. He completed five seasons with the club.
In 2011 David joined the club Chelsea and thus the club winning streak started. They won the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and the UEFA Europa League.
In 2014 he was transferred to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record transfer fee of 50 million euros to be spent on a defender. After his joining the German club won all four domestic competitions in French Football.
Seeing his performance Chelsea bought David from PSG for 34 million Euros in 2016. His performance further assisted the club to win FA Cup of 2016-17 and the UEFA Europa League of 2018-19.
On 8th August 2019, he was signed by Arsenal for 8 million Euros. On 6th October 2019, he netted his first goal for Arsenal in a 1-0 victory against the AFC Bournemouth.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
David started playing for his Brazilian national team form the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007. On 10th August 2010, he played his first match against the United States in a 2-0 friendly win.
In 2012 he captioned his team for the first time against South Africa in Sao Paulo, next year he assisted his team to conquer the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
CONTROVERSY
David was widely criticized over Chelsea 0-1 controversial win against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 5th May 2013. He was accused of elbowing Rafel in the chest at the 89th minute and then rolling around when he was retaliated by lashing out with his right leg.
