Manchester United win seven matches straight at Old Trafford for the first time since 2017

The Red Devils are now just one point off crosstown rivals Manchester City

Looks like bad days of Manchester United are far behind them as Erik Ten Hag and his troops have now won 7 matches straight at home for the first time since 2017. The Red Devils have gone from strength to strength this season after appointing former Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag who seems to have taken full control of the team and has adapted to the demands of English football.

We all know of the narrative about Sir Alex Fergueson’s role in developing Manchester United and taking them to the top. During his tenure United won 18 silverwares from 1990 to 2013 including 13 Premier league titles and 2 UEFA Champions Leagues but since he left, the club only has only won 3 trophies – the FA Cup, EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League.

Louis Van Gaal won the first trophy since SAF era by winning the 2016 FA Cup and after he got fired, Jose Mourinho delivered the Carabao Cup and Europa League. But both of the coaches were eventually sacked. Now under Erik Ten Hag, Manchester United have a very good chance of landing at least one silverware this season or at least do better than the last 2 years.

Erik Ten Hag now has the highest win percentage after 25 games with Manchester United

Ten Hag since joining last summer, made a couple of signings which has boosted their performance. Casemiro is the biggest name he signed after a string of failed attempts to land Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona. The Brazilian Central Defender has taken care of United’s midfield and marshaled them through tough matches to help them earn points.

After their win last night against Bournemouth, Manchester United have gone level on points with 3rd placed Newcastle United and just a point off from defending champions Manchester City. 9 points separates United from league leaders Arsenal and their upcoming 6 matches could define their season as they will face Arsenal, City, Crystal Palace and FC Barcelona.

Man Utd’s key has been their midfield, which is looking balanced due to the presence of experienced players like Casemiro and Christian Erikson. The duo have formed a rock solid and creative partnership in the middle of the park. Casemiro has provided the defensive stability and Ten Hag has used him offensively as well. The 30-year-old has been tackling, fouling, scoring and giving it all for the Red Devils.

Erikson on the other hand has proved to be a blessing in disguise for them. Alongside Bruno Fernandes, Erikson has been putting top performances for the side. Only Kevin De Bruyne (9)has more assists than Erikson (6) this season in PL. With Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial also complimenting their creativity, United have regained their shape and could surprise a few big teams in future.

In total he has taken his tally to 7 goals this season whereas last season he could only manage to score 4 times in 25 top-flight outings.  The Red Devils are averaging 1.59 Goals per match while maintaining a passing accuracy of 82%. Another major improvement lies in their defense. Last season United only kept 8 clean sheets in 38 matches but this season they have matched that number in just 17 games. David De Gea is tied with Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale in keeping the second highest clean sheets (8). Only Newcastle United's Nick Pope has spent more matches without conceding (10). They are scripting a new story which can possibly bring the glory days back to the Old Trafford. Will they come out on top this season?
