Former South Africa player Jonty Rhodes is regarded as the best fielder in the history of cricket. He is still remembered for his amazing dive catches and run-outs. Coming in as a middle-order batsman and despite scoring more than 8,000 international runs, Rhodes is more famous for his exceptional fielding skills.
Rhodes came into the spotlight after the famous diving run-out of Inzamam-ul-Haq during the 1992 World Cup. Since then, he has also picked up some one-handed stunners and kept improving to become the best fielder in his time. Making the best use of his experience, he worked for many franchise teams as a fielding coach over the years.
Rhodes worked with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians for nine years as their fielding coach. However, he will be seen with a different team in the upcoming season as he has been roped by Kings XI Punjab as their fielding coach.
Meanwhile, during a Q/A session on Twitter, the best fielder of the cricket world was asked by a fan who is his favourite fielder. And, the former cricketer gave a quite diplomatic answer as he named seven cricketers in his list of favourite fielders.
Former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs was the first name, then came the name of former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, Indian all-rounders Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. AB de Villiers, Martin Guptill and Kieron Pollard were also in Rhodes’ list.
Rhodes was also asked to pick his favourite Indian player at the moment and the South African star came up with a surprising name. He picked the young batsman Sarfraz Khan, who grabbed the spotlight in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The 50-year old also picked the Brazilian legend Pele when asked to pick a favourite personality from a sport other than cricket.
