Is Ravi Shastri Salary Hike as per New Contract Justified?

Ravi Shastri

Back in August, Ravi Shastri was retained as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He will remain team India coach until ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Now it is a known fact that the CTC of the head coach will see 20% hike and that will take the Shastri annual package to around 10 crores, which is 2 crore more than the last contract.

As per the reports in Mumbai Mirror, the support staff will also get a good hike, although the percentage is not disclosed. Batting coach Vikram Rathour will be earning between 2.5 crore to 3 crore in the financial year. Bharat Arun and R. Sridhar, the bowling and fielding coach, are expected to earn around 3.5 crore. The new contract came into effect on September 1, 2019.

Shastri Earns more Salary than Virat Kohli
According to the payment structure the Grade A+ player earns INR 7 crore in the financial year, INR 5 crore for Grade A, INR 3 crore for Grade B and INR 1 crore for Grade C.

Virat Kohli along with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah falls in Grade A+ category and earns INR 7 crore per year. This above data shows that Ravi Shastri earns more than the biggest cricket superstar Virat Kohli.

Cricket is game of 11 men, the players decides the fate of the game. They deserve all the accolades and inflated salaries, not the ones who remain behind the scenes. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni sweat it out in the ground, absorb all the pressure and churn the victory through sheer hard work.

On the other hand, the head coach job is more about man management and keeping the players in the right frame of mind. It doesn’t happen in any sport, where the coach gets higher remuneration than players. Although being too harsh would be wrong as the payment structure for the players is about to revise in the month of October.

Let’s take a look at the annual player contracts from October 2018 to September 2019.
