The 8th match of IPL 2024 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will be remembered for a long time. Not only did SRH clinch a convincing 31-run victory, but the match also saw many records tumble.

SRH Batters Rewrite Record Books
SRH set the tone for a landmark night by posting a humungous score of 277/3, the highest total recorded in the history of IPL. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were on carnage and destroying MI’s bowler. Sharma smashed a 16-ball fifty, the fastest for SRH in the IPL. Head was not far behind, scoring a fifty off just 18 deliveries, making it the second-fastest fifty for the franchise.
Notably, the fastest fifty in the history of the IPL was smashed by Rajasthan Royal’s opener batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hand batter has scored fastest fifty of the IPL in just 13 balls.

Collective power on display
The combined batting effort from both sides was outstanding. This match produced the highest number of boundaries hit in one IPL match – 69, including fours and sixes. SRH’s inning consists of 18 sixes, the most in an IPL inning for the franchise. This onslaught from each team led to a healthy aggregate of 523 runs, this is the highest ever combined total in an IPL match.

MI Fight but fail
MI showed commendable combativeness in pursuit of a big goal. They posted 246/5 which is the highest total ever recorded in the 2nd inning of an IPL match. Tilak Varma (64) and Tim David (42*) were MI’s outstanding performers. However, their efforts were not enough to overcome the mountain of runs put up by SRH.
Abhishek Sharma Deservedly Earns Man of the Match
Abhishek Sharma’s aggressive knock of 63 off just 23 deliveries which was instrumental in SRH’s dominant performance. His quick-fire fifties and contribution to the overall smashing made him a deserving recipient of the Man of the Match award.
