Yashasvi Jaiswal is a young Indian cricketer who first came into the limelight in 2015 when he scored 319* and also took 13 wickets in a Giles Shield match registering an all-round performance in a school cricket match, thereby registering his name in the Limca Book of Records. He currently plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and also represents India Under 19 team and is best known for being the youngest cricketer to score List A double century.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Early Life

Yashasvi was born on December 28, 2001, in Suriyawan, Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh. He is the fourth among all the six children in the family. His father Bhupendra Jaiswal owns a small hardware shop in Bhadohi and his mother Kanchan Jaiswal is a home-maker. Yashasvi started playing cricket at a very young age and wanted to prosper his career in the sport but unfortunately, Yashasvi’s family was not well-off financially. When Yashasvi was 10 years old he decided to move to Mumbai to build his career in sport. His father had no objection to his decision as his income was not adequate to run his family.

Yashasvi moved to Mumbai to live with his uncle Santosh in a small house in Worli. In Mumbai, Yashasvi got a job in a dairy shop where he worked during the day time and sleep during the night as his uncle’s house was not spacious enough to accommodate two people. Yashasvi had to work at the shop and then study. He also couldn’t afford to miss a single practice session. He couldn’t manage everything altogether and ultimately lost the job at the dairy shop.

His uncle then took him to the Muslim United Cricket Club in Azad Maidan in Mumbai and after getting admission to that club, Yashasvi could practice regularly. Santosh had requested the owners of the Muslim United Cricket Club to let Yashasvi live in the tent in the garden of the club. For the living, Yashasvi used to sell fruits and Pani Puri during the Ram Leela in Azad Maidan in the evening.

During that phase, he endured so much pain and struggle as he had to survive without electricity and even missed his family.

Yashasvi is a talent-packed boy as his potential was easily seen from a very young age. When he was just 12 years old, he would face the division ‘A’ bowlers with ease as witnessed by Jawala Singh who runs a cricket Academy in Santa Cruz. Finally, in 2015, Yashasvi grabbed everyone’s attention as he scored a magnificent 319* and in the same match, he took 13 wickets and conceding 99 runs. It was in that match he also created a world record with his all-round performance. He then went on to become the highest run-scorer at the Under-19 Asia Cup as he scored 318 runs in the tournament. With that knock, he soon broke into the Mumbai Under 16 team. 

Soon, Yashasvi got a maiden first-class call-up in January 2019 for the senior team to play in the 2018-19 season of Ranji Trophy where he played for Mumbai. In the same year, he made his List A debut in September as he played for Mumbai in 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In that tournament, in a game against Jharkhand, he smashed 203 runs off 173 balls and also became the youngest cricketer at the age of just 17 to score a double century. He was also one of the highest run-scorers in the tournament with 564 runs in just 6 matches. Yashasvi was automatically selected for the India B team in for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy.
