IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians bag 5th IPL title after beating Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets in the final

Mumbai Indians

The invincible Mumbai Indians have claimed their 5th IPL title after beating Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 finals on Tuesday. Another all-round performance from the unit has helped them register a clinical 5-wicket victory as Mumbai Indians strengthen their supremacy in the cash-rich league.

It was Trent Boult who broke the back of Delhi Capitals as he accounted for the wickets of Stoinis and Rahane in his two overs of the innings. The decision to bring in Jayant Yadav also reaped rewards as he took the most important wicket of Shikhar Dhawan in just the fourth over of the inning. In only four overs, Delhi Capitals were reeling at 22 for 3 and they needed a partnership to rebuild.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer wasn’t amongst the runs until this game and Rishabh Pant too endured a lean run in the tournament. However, both the young stars showed character and fought out in the middle. The duo led the recovery and stitched a crucial 96-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Unfortunately, Rishabh Pant got out at a crucial period in the game and his wicket did slow down the pace of the innings.

Rishabh Pant scored 58 runs off 38 balls, while Shreyas Iyer contributed 65 runs off 50 deliveries as Delhi Capitals scored 156 runs in the first innings.

Rohit Sharma Best Opener in IPL

The openers in Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma didn’t let Delhi Capitals put pressure on them. Quinton de Kock hammered Kagiso Rabada for 18 runs in his first over. Delhi Capitals raced to 45 runs in just 4 overs.

Marcus Stoinis gave Delhi its first scalp in the form of Quinton de Kock but Suryakumar Yadav counter-attacked after hitting Stoinis for 10 runs in the next two deliveries. A match-winning knock from Rohit Sharma of 68 runs off 51 balls meant Mumbai didn’t allow Delhi Capitals to bounce back in the game.

In the end, Mumbai Indians chased down the total comfortably in 18.4 overs.
