Gagan Narang is an Indian shooter, who participates in the 10 m Air Rifle Event, who was known to be the first Indian who qualified for the London Olympics. Gagan has never failed to make his homeland proud and ensured to bag every prestigious title with his determination and hard work.

The Indian shooter, in wake of producing future champions for the nation and to give back to the game, has launched Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation that equips talented and budding shooters with an opportunity to make a mark at the International stage.

Early Life of Gagan Narang
The Indian shooter was born on 6 May 1983. The young Gagan Narang always dreamed to be an air force pilot. According to Gagan’s father, he saw a budding shooter within his son when Gagan was two years old and he perfectly shot a balloon with his toy pistol. Gagan Narang’ worked in Air India. Gagan’s shooting journey started in 1997, when his father allowed him to use his air pistol. After that instance, Gagan worked on his and perfected his shooting skills. He had his practice sessions for shooting at backyard of his home. Before sticking to riffle shooting, Gagan tried his hands numerous other sports.

Thanks to the Bhimsen Narang, Gagan Narang’s father, who encouraged him to become a shooter and gave India a star to be proud of. It is only his determination that gave him the fame and success he has today in the field of riffle shooting.

Bhimsen Narang and Amarjit are the parents of the promising riffle shooting. Gagan’s belongs to Punjabi family and resides in Chennai. Gagan’s father worked as a chief manager in Air India. Gagan’s too faced a lot of struggles throughout his journey to be a successful shooter. His parents were forced to sell their land, where they planned to build a house to buy a rifle for their budding shooter. Gagan and their family lived in rented home for long 15 years. Gagan always thank his parent for their support and efforts, who made him the successful individual he is today.

Gagan Narang never had a love affair. The talented shooter receives a lot of marriage proposals and also his parents’ want their son to get married soon but Gagan wants to completely focus on his career and don’t want a marriage anytime soon. On a personal note, Gagan Narang don’t have a dream girl but he wants a girl who will support him in his thick and thin of his career.

At a very young age, Gagan Narang has achieved a lot of achievements in his professional life. At the age of 20, the shooter won a gold medal in the 2003 Afro Asian Games. In 2010, he accumulated more success and fame in the Commonwealth games that was held in New Delhi. The promising rifle shooter earned 4 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games in 10m rifle and 50m rifle categories and became the only Indian male sportsperson to achieve this. Gagan was honoured with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award on 29th August 2011 for the acquiring highest sports award in India (for 2010).

Gagan also earned a silver medal (individual) in 2010 at the Asian Games. Also, he acquired a silver medal in the team event.

The list of Gagan’s achievements in shooting profession is very long and remarkable. After Rajyavardhan Rathotre and Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang became the third Indian shooter who acquired an exceptional success in international sport.

Gagan was displeasured when he was ignored thrice for the honourable Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. Following the ignorance, he even threatened that he won’t participate in the Commonwealth Games 2010. He complained of not receiving enough motivation. After a lot of insistence from Gagan’s family members and fans, he finally participated in the Commonwealth.
