Doddanarasiah Ganesh (born 30 June 1973 in Bangalore, Karnataka) is a former Indian cricketer who played in four Test-matches and a One Day International in 1997. He was a right arm bowler and a lower-order batsman.

Though a promising player Dodda Ganesh found it hard to make an impression within the limited opportunities he got in the Test matches, ended up with just five wickets at an average of just 57.40. In first-class cricket, he got 365 wickets from 104 matches which include 299 at 27.09 for his team. Recently he applied for the post of head coach of our national cricket team and soon he will appear for the interview.

Dodda Ganesh started as a wicketkeeper and also as an opening batsman for team India. Anantha Padmanabhan, who used to be the Indian wicketkeeper and Sayed Kirmani was Ganesh’s idols while growing up. Gundappa Viswanath amazed with Ganesh’s bowling talent and enrolled him at Chikna club. Due to the lack of opportunities, Ganesh shifted to AV Jayaprakash’s training camp, where he prospered as a bowler and got an entry into the Karnataka team.

In Karnataka team players like Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, Venkatesh Prasad, and Sunil Joshi, all stalwarts who represented India, and one of them was a genuine all-time great, among them one was top pacemen who represented India. In a team of full of stars, Dodda Ganesh stood out as most wicket taker bowler and he accomplished this with six five-wicket hauls and two ten-furs in the year 1998-99, which accounted for seventy-four batsmen in a season.

Domestic Career Of Dodda Ganesh

The nineties was the golden era for the cricket team of Karnataka. Presence of players like Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad, Sunil Joshi, and Anil Kumble, Ganesh had got limited opportunities to showcase his talent. Ganesh made his debut in the 1994-95 season, but could not get a permanent slot in his state team. He came from a humble family background and was helped by his teammates and well-wishers.

In Irani Trophy in the year 1996-97 Ganesh took eleven wickets, including Navjot Singh Sidhu and V. V. S. Laxman that he stormed into national cricket. After his fantabulous performance, he was selected for the South Africa tour. During the year 1994 to 2005, he played for his Karnataka domestic team.

International Career  Of Dodda Ganesh

Ganesh’s international debut was the second Test against South Africa at Cape Town. He bowled 24 overs in the 1st innings but got no success. His first Test wicket was in the second innings when he managed to trap Gary Kirsten through leg before wicket, but Team India suffered a huge defeat in this match. He was still in the team for the next Test at Johannesburg. He did bowl nine overs in the game, as opponent South Africa hung on for a draw.

Though Ganesh did not have a brilliant tour, in 1997 he was selected for the West Indies tour. He took four wickets including Carl Hooper in both innings during the third Test at Barbados. India was having only 120 runs to chase but stumbled in the second innings and all got out for 81. Dodda Ganesh played the last rain-affected Test at Guyana.

In his later stage of life, Ganesh expressed interest in politics and joined Janata Dal led by H D Deve Gowda former prime minister of India.
