Deodhar Trophy 2023, Final: Kunnummal’s century paved the way for South Zone

Deodhar Trophy

The final of the Deodhar Trophy between South Zone and East Zone became even more interesting, because of the century made by Rohan Kunnummal. He stood there at one end when the wickets were falling, and paved the road for the team. Not only was he able to score well for himself, but even had a good partnership with Mayank Aggarwal. This was certainly a brilliant contribution given by Kunnummal.

Importance of Kunnumal’s innings

The opening stand was of 181 runs, and out of those 107 was scored by Kunnumal alone. He was not only getting runs but even scoring at a quick rate. He was abv to maintain the strike rate of 142 and even got 4 sixes.

Due to the consistent performance of Kunnumal, South Zone was able to put consistent pressure on the East Zone bowlers. By the time the centurion was out, the damage was already done.

Once the innings of Kunnumal was over, other players ensured to make some small contribution, to make the score moving. Jagadeesan got a good 54 runs on 60 balls. In this innings, he was able to get 2 fours and a six. This was certainly a good performance down the order, to make the regular contribution to the team total. At the same time Rayudu and Karthik on the other hand were able to make small contributions.

It was certainly a collective contribution by all the teammates that took the score to a massive 328 runs. However, the biggest contribution was certainly from Kunnummal.

East Zone was certainly not expecting the opponents to get to a huge total of 328 runs, and they collapsed only at the score of 283 runs. Even though in the middle order, Riyan Parag was able to make a brilliant contribution of 95, that was not enough to make the team win.
