The BCCI on 19 October 2026 named former India spinner Ramesh Powar to the men's senior selection committee, with Pragyan Ojha chairing the panel. The announcement came from BCCI headquarters.
Powar was picked to fill the vacancy created when Ajit Agarkar's term ended on 4 October. The 48‑year‑old played 2 Tests and 31 ODIs for India.
The BCCI said its Cricket Advisory Committee, made up of Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, screened and interviewed applicants at the board's headquarters. The panel then unanimously recommended Powar for the role.
"The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising former India batters Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, unanimously recommended the appointment of Powar".
On the chair, the BCCI said Ojha will lead the committee on the basis of seniority, measured by the number of Tests played, succeeding Agarkar as chairman of the selection panel.
The full men's selection committee now consists of Pragyan Ojha as chairperson, Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Ramesh Powar. The board also thanked Agarkar for his "commitment, conviction and contribution" as chairman.
Agarkar was appointed in July 2023, the BCCI said. During his time in charge, India won three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back‑to‑back Asian Games gold medals.
Powar brings extensive coaching experience to the panel. The BCCI notes that he has been head coach of the India Women's team, Mumbai and Gujarat, and bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. With the India Women's team, he guided them to an Asia Cup title and a Commonwealth Games silver medal.
