Former South African captain and Chennai Super Kings batsman Faf du Plessis has recently spoken about the success of his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings. He said that the team’s dressing room is filled with many “thinking cricketers”.
Faf du Plessis, who himself is a vital cog of the side, heaped praise on the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He talked about how he has led the side all these years.
“With Chennai, my experience there has been that of a calm dressing room. There are a lot of thinking cricketers in the dressing room,” du Plessis said during an Instagram live conversation with former Zimbabwe cricketer Pommie Mbangwa.
Even the former South African skipper has an experience of leading the side and he’s himself played a crucial role in pulling the success for the franchise.
“There is a confidence in the CSK dressing room that someone will pull it through for us, and on each occasion, it is someone different.
“The guys share the load in winning games, it is a confidence thing by doing it again and again,” du Plessis added.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK lifted three trophies i.e., in 2010, 2011 and 2018. The trophy in 2018 was special as the side had returned to the league after two years of suspension. Besides, CSK is the only franchise in IPL to have qualified for the playoffs round in every edition of the cash-rich league.
Du Plessis went on to compare the CSK team to the old Manchester United team under the legendary Alex Ferguson.
“Think of the old Man United team. How many times did they score goals in the last minutes of the game? They’d be behind but they’d find a way to win. It’s like that (at CSK), it’s just the confidence that comes with winning,” said the South African former skipper.
