CSK buys Piyush Chawla for a shocking price: VIVO IPL 2020 Auctions

The auction for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is underway and it has already produced some surprises. In the list of local players, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has stunned everyone after he was sold to Chennai Super Kings for 6.25 crores.

Piyush has been out of the radar for quite a time now in Team India and with in-form leg-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal in the side, there is no way back for the experienced leg-spinner in the side. But that didn’t make his value any less in the IPL auction as he was sold for a whopping price.

The leg-spinner set his base price at INR 1 crore, He was released by Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings grabbed the opportunity to buy him. Skipper MS Dhoni likes to play with leg-spinners and that opens up a big opportunity for Piyush Chawla to become a regular starter in the side.

Meanwhile, among the experienced local players, Hanuma Vihari and Cheteshwar Pujara remained unsold along with one of the greatest hitters in his time Yusuf Pathan. All-rounder Stuart Binny also remained unsold in the auction.

Indian fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat was once again a favorite name in the auction. He was sold to his previous team Rajasthan Royals for Rs.3 crore.

Other players who remained unsold were South Africa s Heinrich Klaasen (base price of 50 lakh), Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim (base price of 75 lakh), India wicketkeeper Naman Ojha (base price 50 lakh), Sri Lanka’s gloveman Kusal Perera (base price of 50 lakh)

In-form West Indies batsman Shai Hope, who is in amazing touch with the bat also remained unsold along with New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee.

Earlier, Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins became the most expensive overseas player in the history of IPL after being sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping price of INR 15.5 crores.
