After being put in to bat first, TKR scored 142/8 in 20 overs, thanks to a 58-run opening partnership between Mark Deyal and Martin Guptill. However, they lost three wickets in quick succession in the middle overs and were eventually restricted to a below-par total.
In reply, JT got off to a good start with Brandon King and Alex Hales putting on 57 runs for the first wicket in the powerplay. However, the Knight Riders bowlers struck back in the middle overs, dismissing four wickets for just 15 runs to reduce JT to 65/4 in the 10th over.
Chris Green then came to the rescue for JT with a blazing innings of 32 off 16 balls, which included a solid three sixes. He put on a key partnership with Imad Wasim for the fifth wicket and kept JT in the hunt for victory until the very end.
However, Green was eventually dismissed by Andre Russel in the penultimate over, with JT needing 12 runs to win off the last over. Imad Wasim tried his best to get JT over the line, but he could not take his team to victory, as TKR held on for a narrow victory.
For Knight Riders, Andre Russell and Waqar Salamkheil took 3 & 2 wickets respectively. While Narine also chipped in with 2 wickets. With this win, TKR moved to third place in the CPL 2023 points table, while JT remained in fifth place.
The match was a closely fought affair, and both teams played some good cricket. However, TKR’s bowlers were more disciplined and accurate in the crucial moments, and they deserved to win.
