Callum Wilson a.k.a “The Goal Machine” is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for the England national team and Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. He started his career with Coventry City in 2009 and gave five prosperous years to the club. During his time in the club, he became the first Coventry City youth teamer who won National award for apprentice of the month, League 1 Player of the month and the Club’s top goalscorer award. He was loaned to Kettering Town and Tamworth for one-three month tenure, then in 2014, he moved to AFC Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee, which is believed to be three million Euros.

For the club, he assisted to conquer the 2014-15 Football League Championship. Wilson has been connected with its national team since its youth squad for which he made his only appearance on 17th November in the match against France, as a 65th-minute substitute in a 3-2 defeat. For the senior side, he has played a crucial role in the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League where his team finished third.

 EARLY LIFE

Wilson was born on 27th February 1992 in the United Kingdom to a Jamaican Father and an English mother, unlike most of the British footballers, Wilson never had a privileged or ideal childhood life. His father left his mother when he was a baby, as a child who had lived a life in his/her dad’s disappearance would know how deep emotional pain it can cause. Wilson took his emotional pain as his determination to achieve something great in his life. Wilson started participating in football activities since his childhood, luckily he passed the trial of the club Coventry and thus started his football journey professionally, but after few pieces of training in the club he left, the reason being that  he felt that he is becoming a burden to his helpers and was fed-up on people to lift him. But being surrounded by unfortunate circumstances he for the third time passed the trial of the club and decided to stick fully with the youth club.

Wilson married his long-time girlfriend Stacy who took care of him during his injuries and showed him how to eat like an athlete. Stacy is two years older than Wilson. She is the reason behind Wilson’s progress in his career. She introduced him to salads and healthy foods. The couple is blessed with son Oritse and daughter Orlagh

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Wilson made his debut for Coventry City on 12th August 2009 against the Hartlepool United in a 1-0 win for the League Cup. He then was offered a professional deal from the club side which he accepted and made his league debut as a substitute against the Queens Park Rangers in 2010 December. He made his first appearance in 2012-13 season in a 1-0 loss against the Carlisle United where he was also appointed as a substitute. In the 2013-14 season, he established himself in the regular team. Partnering with his fellow striker Leon Clarke, he netted 10 goals in 11 matches and topped the League 1 Scoring charts. He finished the season being in the list of  League’s top scorer with 22 goals also he was given a place in the League one Professional Footballer’s Associations Team of the Year.

Playing for the club he achieved the club’s Top Scorer award, Player’s Player award through the votes he got from his teammates and the Player of the Season award. In 2011 he joined the Conference Premier club Ketting Town on a month loan which later was extended to another three months after his performance in the first month where he netted one goal out of 17 match appearances. On 29 December 2011, he was loaned to Tamworth on a one-month loan. Playing for the club he made his debut against the Alfreton Town in a 2-2 draw. He netted his second game for the club with a curling shot in a 2-1 defeat against Wrexham on 14th January. He made his exit from the team early before his loan term expired due to a fractured foot. On 4th July 2014, Wilson signed AFC Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee but was believed to be Three Million Euros. He debuted against the Huddersfield Town in which he netted twice. Due to his assistance, the club achieved promotion in the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history in his debut season.

He ended the season with 20 league goals making him the top goal scorer of that season. The club due to his help won the match against the West Bromwich Albion in the fourth round of the League Cup. He also became the first player to score in all three domestic competitions. On 22nd August 2015, he netted his first Premier League goal with a hat-trick against the west ham United. After a knee injury, he made his return on 9th April 2016 where he assisted the team to win against the Aston Villa in a 2-1 win. In 2019 he has been among the top 10 contenders in the list of top scorers at the English Premier League 2019. In his international carrier, he was called up by England U21 squad in November 2014 to play a friendly match against the United States also a UEFA Nations League match against Croatia. He made his debut on 15 November against the United States at Wembley Stadium where he netted a goal at the 77th minute thus solidifying his team win by 3-0, in doing so he became the first Bournemouth player to score in England.
