Australia women name 18-member squad for limited-overs series against New Zealand

Australia Women

Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday announced the 18-member squad of Australia women’s team for the forthcoming limited-overs series against New Zealand. There has been some surprising inclusion as the all-rounder Ellyse Perry has made it into the squad after almost seven months.

Perry missed the semi-finals as well as the finals of the ICC T20 Women’s T20 World Cup after sustaining a hamstring injury. But this time she will join the squad after clearing all the fitness test.

The 18-member squad includes the same 15 players who won the T20 World Cup earlier this year. While the rest three are the new faces that CA has included for the series. The three new faces in the squad are Tahlia McGrath, and pacers Belinda Vakarewa and Brown. The Commonwealth Bank between the two nations series is all set to start later this month.

Australia 18-member Squad: Meg Lanning (C), Rachael Haynes (VC), Maitlan Brown, Erin Burns, Nicola Carey, Ashleigh Gardner, Alyssa Healy, Jess Jonassen, Delissa Kimmince, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry*, Megan Schutt, Molly Strano, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham, Belinda Vakarewa

This will be the first time the players will take on the field after a triumphant victory in the T20 World Cup against India. They last played on March 8 and after that, all the sporting activities were stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The schedule for the series has matches in both New South Wales and Queensland but given the current COVID, situation changes may be required. Cricket Australia will continue to work with relevant authorities and advise any changes.” Cricket Australia said in a statement.
