2006 Commonwealth Games
- Samaresh Jung, an Indian air pistol specialist, was named the inaugural David Dixon Award honoree, acknowledging the best performing athlete at each Commonwealth Games.
Jung won seven medals: 5 gold, 1 silver & 1 bronze, and set three new Games records in the process.
In 2010, he got the distinction of bearing the Queen’s Baton during the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
2010 Commonwealth Games
- For the first time in the Games’ history, India secured a medal in Gymnastics, with Ashish Kumar clinching silver and bronze medals.
- After a 52-year drought, India regained a gold medal in athletics when Krishna Poonia won the women’s discus throw event. Geeta Phogat won the country’s first gold medal in women’s wrestling.
2014 Commonwealth Games
- Dipa Karmakar got a bronze medal in Gymnastics – Women’s vault at the 2014 Commonwealth Games to become the first female Indian gymnast to win a medal on an international scale.
- Kashyap Parupalli won gold in the Badminton Men’s Singles event and became the first Indian male shuttler in 32 years to do so at the Commonwealth Games.
- Vikas Gowda won gold in the Men’s Discus Throw, handing India its first gold medal in men’s athletics in 56 years.
- Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal made history by capturing India’s first gold medal in squash at the Commonwealth Games.
2018 Commonwealth Games
- Manika Batra, ranked 58th in the world then, demonstrated that her accomplishment was no anomaly against competitors who were considerably higher on the international rankings. By winning the event, she became the first and only Indian female paddler ever to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
- Then, at the age of 20, Neeraj Chopra became India’s first sportsman to win a gold medal in the javelin throw event. India’s record-breaking gold medalist has shown a lot of talent and ambition in recent years, gaining him a spot among the country’s premier athletes.
- Anish Bhanwala decimated all rivals on his route to victory at the age of 15, becoming India’s youngest ever athlete to win gold at a Commonwealth Games event. Anish won the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol category with a Games record total of 30 in his remarkable CWG debut.
